They drive on land or water. The Max is propelled through water by its tyres. They will all do 6.5 kph in water, and between 29 kph (Buffalo) and 40kph (Max II) on land.
They are true full-time 6-wheel drive vehicles. There is no differential action as both sides drive independently of each other.
The MAX has two steering levers. You pull back the right one to go right and the left one to turn left. you pull them both back to stop. It’s all hand controlled with the throttle on the right hand steering lever. You can turn in the radius of the vehicle.
The MAX has 6 wheels and each tyre has 105 square inches on the ground – 630 square inches in total, and so it has a very low ground pressure. – When unloaded, a Max II exerts about 1/8th of the ground pressure of a human being, and about a 1/28th of a 4 wheel drive truck. This means that you can drive the MAX in places that you wouldn’t be able to walk, and certainly couldn’t take any other vehicle. Fit the tracks for superb go-anywhere snow and difficult terrain performance.
With our drought in the news, Australia is sometimes wrongly perceived, by those who don’t know us, as a wholly dry country, unsuitable for this kind of vehicle. Up here in the Tropical North, in the mountain regions, in our mines and on our many miles of coastline we know differently. MAX atv’s are ideal for Australian conditions, and it took an Australian company to recognise this, and bring them here.
